Sean,
When you are looking for a substitution for milk products, please keep in mind that there are other factors involved such as the protein casein. If casein is a one of your factors involved you also need to stand clear of goat and sheep’s milk as well as cow’s milk. You can substitute those with other alternative milks such as hemp, rice, almond, oat, coconut and hazelnut milks. There are several name brands to choose from for example the rice milk I would choose would be Pacific Brand, there is no soy in the product, and Hemp Bliss Hemp Milk, again there is no soy. In your case, just make sure to read the product labels carefully to make sure the product is ok for you. There are other products that you can substitute other dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, protein powders, and ice cream as well. For yogurt and ice cream I would choose “So-Delicious” brand, they cary a line made from coconut milk. Galaxy Cheese, which is made from rice milk, but be careful, there are two to choose from, one is vegan and one is made from soy, the vegan is the one you want to try.
For soy products, please keep in mind the little by-product called soy lecthin, which is a binder and found in most chocolates as well as chocolate flavored alternative milks. Again there are many soy free products out on the market, and you can find these in most of your health food stores or depending on where you live, most large grocery stores. Hope this was of some help to you, and just to let you know, it would be wise to have a blood test for delayed food allergies to see exactly what you are allergic to.

Unfortunately, goat cheese will also have the protien casein, although the protein structure is a little bit different from the casein found in cow’s milk. If you are allergic to one you may very well become allergic to the other in time. Best case senario, stay away from cow, sheep and goat milk and try using an alternative cheese made from rice or soy, depending on what foods you are allergic to. To find out what you are allergic to, I would consider you do a web search on delayed food allergies and go from there.

Hey Josh,
With summer coming around the corner, I’m sure you’re looking for something to keep you cool on those hot days. There are in fact two great products that you can choose from. So-Delicious, which is a coconut based yogurt, also makes a coconut based ice cream. Also a product that has just been released from Living Harvest, the makes of Hemp Milk, have just started putting on the shelves a product called “Temt”, which is a great way to keep those summer days at bay. Both come in several different flavors and can be found in most of your local stores. I do believe if you go to their websites, you’ll find a store locator that you can use.

Marcy,
You must have been reading my mind today as Living Harvest just introduced their newest creation called “Tempt”. This product is free of soy and dairy, which if I recall is right up your alley, and it comes in 5 different flavors. Enjoy!!
Hi Lonnie!
A quick comment on your SO-Delicious coconut milk based yogurt – it is great! Even my 4 year old little picky guy liked it!
Quick question – Andrew & Everett makes what they claim to be a casein free cheese. Milk is one of the ingredients but they claim there is no casein. We tried the shredded mozarella and it was like real cheese. Do you think this is for real?
thanks!
Heather
I am happy to hear they liked to yogurt. The cheese on the other hand does contain casein, they just don’t add any “extra” casein to their product. Casein occurs naturally in dairy. This would be a cheese I would use once we start the challenge phase of the diet.
Thanks. Bummer! I was so hoping there was some sort of miracle casein free cheese out there that tastes good! Thanks for checking into this. Any cheese product recommendations?
There is a company that makes a rice based and a soy based cheese. The name of the cheese is Galaxy from Galaxy Foods, try looking in the produce section in the grocery store because you won’t find it in the cheese section. their website is http://www.galaxyfoods.com.
Lonnie, the SILK brand creamer for coffer is soy ans states has no casein. Is this safe? Also. Having huge trouble eating and fullfulling my 3 a day meals still in order to take the famvir. When do you expect recepioes to be online? Thanks, Carrie

as long as you are not allergic to soy that would be ok because soy milk does not have casein in it. The recipes, as I am told should be up in a couple weeks.
I’ve just received my test results from Sage laboratories and the most surprising result is that I have a delayed allergy to eggs(chicken). I eat a ton of chicken in my diet. Should I eleiminate all chicken from my diet? Also, if I have an allergic reaction (delayed)to eggs, does that include all products made with eggs or just eggs themselves? Finally, I have a delayed allergic reaction to cottonseed. What food products contains cottonseed? Thank you.

Mike,
Since you have tesetd positive for a delayed reaction to eggs, that means that you need to avoid eggs be it from a chicken, duck, quail, egg beaters, egg whites or anything “egg”. You do not have to avoid eating chicken itself though, even though eggs come from chickens, the protein structures are quite different. Just make sure that you are not eating chicken everyday, you want to rotate everything every three days. As far as cottenseed oil, that is a fairly cheap oil to process and can be found in a lot of pre-baked foods or processed foods.
What would you recommend for a substitute for milk and soy products?
Thanks
